Dens Park is the stadium which Dundee moved to on 19th August 1899,
from their previous home at Carolina Port. Dens Park has hosted some momentous games in which Dundee have
been involved in over the last 103 years, (some of them being the games in the European Cup in 1963, probably the most notable being the 8-1 thrashing of German Champions FC Cologne). To
mark the centenery of Dens, Dundee played Greek side Aris Thesolonika in a friendly in August 1999, which ended 3-2 in favour
of The Dee. |
BOBBY COX AND BOB SHANKLY
These are the 2 stands that were built at the
end of season 1998/99 which kept Dundee in the top-flight. Dundee were told from the SPL that if 2 all-seater
stands were not completed before the start of season 1999/00, then Dundee would go back down to the First Division, as
Dens Park had less than the designated amount of seats, (10,000). But the job was successful, and the stands stand at opposite
ends of the ground to each-another, and are identical apart from the names, Bobby Cox (home) and Bob Shankly (away). Other
stands are The Main Grandstand and The South Enclosure, better-known amongst the Dens Park faithful as The Derry.
