MANAGER- ALEX RAE
Alex Rae began his playing career at the club from which Dundee signed
him - Rangers. However, Rae failed to break into the first-team set-up at Ibrox and moved to Falkirk to start what has
been and continues to be, a long and eventful footballing chapter.
Rae then made a name for himself at English outfit Millwall, where
he spent six years. He made 218 appearances for the Lions, scoring 63 goals.
Alex's next stop was in the North-East of England where he joined Sunderland
during the summer of 1996. Rae had by this time built himself a repuation of being a no-nonsense midfielder, a title
of which earned him a queue of admirers, one of whom included Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Dave Jones.
Wolves made an initial approach for Rae in the summer of 2001 but injury
held the move up. However, Jones finally got his man in September of the same year, £1million was the cost of securing
the Scottish midfielder's services.
Rae couldn't have made a better start at the Molineux, in his first
season he earned himself the Player of the Year title for 2001/02, making 34 league and cup appearances.
Rae's stay at Wolves ended in 2004 when he signed for Rangers on a
2 year deal. During his second spell at Ibrox he won the League title as Rangers pipped Celtic on
the last day of season 2004/05.
After dropping down the pecking order at Rangers, Alex Rae joined Dundee
in June 2006 to undertake a player/manager role. Rae swiftly appointed former Partick Thistle player
Davie Farrell as his assistant manager and they will be at the helm for what will hopefully be a new era at
Dens Park.
There has been plenty of change behind the scenes, all that is
left is for there to be plenty of change on the park.
